ULTRAVOX Announce New Album and Tour

After over a year of anticipation, details of the new ULTRAVOX album have finally been announced. Entitled ‘Brilliant’, this will be the first studio album for 28 years featuring the classic line-up of Midge Ure, Billy Currie, Chris Cross and Warren Cann. A 12 track collection of brand new songs, the album will be released on 28th May 2012 ahead of a full UK tour in September and October. Other live dates in Europe are expected to follow.

News of a new ULTRAVOX album had first been accidentally revealed at Return To The Blitz Club by Rusty Egan in January 2011 although this wasn’t made official until a few days later at the 40th Birthday concert of TAKE THAT’s Gary Barlow when Midge Ure made a special guest appearance.

However, drummer Warren Cann had already given hints during an exclusive interview with The Electricity Club after the Return To Eden 2 tour by saying: “As for further tours and/or new material… you’ll just have to wait and see!” Following on, The Electricity Club recently discussed the new album’s video teasers and the longevity of ULTRAVOX in the Evergreen – Why Synth Britannia Still Rules feature which also included GARY NUMAN, DURAN DURAN and original vocalist JOHN FOXX.

A fascinating video clip of the making of Brilliant with commentary by all four band members indicates that the grandiose elements of ULTRAVOX’s signature sound are very much in place. Showing the band at work in Midge Ure’s rural retreat in Canada and Studio City Sound in Los Angeles, Billy Currie amusingly comments “…whether you like it ot not, if you’ve got the wrong notes, you don´t get the right feeling!”.   It is expected that this footage will form part of the documentary ‘Brilliant Beginnings’…

The modestly titled Brilliant has been described as “Dramatic, passionate and truly epic in scale and sound…an extraordinary catalogue of music which today sounds more current and influential than ever.” Indeed, contemporary acts as diverse as MUSE, TAKE THAT and TENEK have all tipped their hat to this quartet of electronic pioneers with songs such as Apocalypse Please, Eight Letters and What Do You Want? respectively in the 21st Century. Of course, ULTRAVOX’s iconic video imagery currently lives on in the stylish visual presentation of Manchester duo HURTS.

The tracklisting is:
Live Again
The Change

Let It Lie

‘Brilliant’ will be released on 28th May 2012 by EMI Records as a CD and download.
