Introducing ARTHUR & MARTHA

ARTHUR & MARTHA are rather confusingly, Adam Cresswell and Alice Hubley.

They've been described as 'Gilbert & George, disguised as The Carpenters, stealing the hits of Kraftwerk and bashing them out on an old Moog in the style of SECTION 25'. With an impressive arsenal of old analogue synths and augmented by quirky instruments like melodica, stylophone and Theremin, Arthur & Martha present a lo-fi electro for happy robots to dance to. NEU! boxset and tour

A new boxset featuring the original NEU! albums is due for release in May, complete with the 'lost' 4th album NEU! '86.

The release is being orchestrated by NEU! founder-member Michael Rother (following the sad passing of Klaus Dinger in 2008) and the release on the Gröenland Records label will also feature a 12" single with over 17 minutes of additional NEU! material taken from a 1972 rehearsal. Rother also promises the addition of some previously unknown tracks. Also included is an 36-page picture book with rare photos and insights covering the band from 1972 to 2000, an exclusive T-Shirt, stencil and a code for downloading additional material online.

Michael Rother has also scheduled live dates for later in the year under the banner of Hallogallo 2010. These shows will feature a selection of NEU! songs performed live as well as other Micahel Rother and Harmonia material. Assisting along the way will be Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth), Benjamin Curtis (School of Seven Bells) and Aaron Mullan (Tall Firs). Dates in Germany and Norway are confirmed with further worldwide dates to follow.

SYNTH BRITANNIA

BBC4's marvellous 'Synth Britannia' celebrated the rise of the synthesizer and how it changed popular music forever, particularly in the UK. Superbly produced and directed by Ben Whalley with interlinking cultural commentary provided by "Rip It Up And Start Again" author Simon Reynolds, it was an empathetic documentary that captured the spirit of a golden era in pop.

The contributors to the programme read like a 'Who's Who?' of electronic music: Wolfgang Flur; Daniel Miller; Richard H Kirk; John Foxx; Gary Numan; Phil Oakey; Martyn Ware; Andy McCluskey; Paul Humphreys, Martin Gore; Vince Clarke; Andy Fletcher; Midge Ure; Dave Ball; Alison Moyet; Susanne Sulley; Joanne Catherall; Bernard Sumner; Neil Tennant; Chris Lowe. They were to become the heroes of the revolution, rebels with a cause, poster boys and girls of the VCO! More inside »

Introducing SHH

Electro-pop is spreading its analogue wings across the globe and the next region to be falling under its spell is South America. So it is therefore appropriate that the country with the most 'European' influence, Argentina should become the leading exponent.

There's already been the Anglo-Argentine duo HEARTBREAK with their 21st Century take on Italo-Disco but now we have a full-blooded beat combo in the wonderful SHH. More inside »

With cackles of laughter and neo-operatic vocal energetics, MARINA & THE DIAMONDS brings us the first great album of 2010.

Coming over like a LENE LOVICH fronted version of SPARKS, The Family Jewels is both kooky and accessible. Amongst all the baroque arrangements and expressions of self-doubt, there are hooks galore and singalong choruses. More inside »
