KRAFTWERK 3D Electronic Extravaganza Comes to London’s Tate Modern

After all the speculation, it really is happening… KRAFTWERK undertake their eight album residency ‘The Catalogue 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8’ in London at Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall starting on Wednesday 6th February 2013 with ‘Autobahn’. As a former power plant, the location is wholly appropriate.

Premiered earlier this year at New York’s MoMA, KRAFTWERK ‘The Catalogue 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 ‘8 is a chronological exploration of the group’s sonic and visual experiments and presents their eight most recent long players with spectacular 3D visualisations and effects. This electronic extravaganza is expected to be extremely popular so there is a four ticket limit per person for a single show and it will not be possible to buy tickets for the whole series; “This is to ensure a greater number of people get to experience KRAFTWERK…” says Tate Modern.

In addition to each album being featured in full, the current line-up of Ralf Hütter, Fritz Hilpert (now celebrating his 21st year with the Klingklang quartet), Henning Schmitz and Stefan Pfaffe will be performing other KRAFTWERK favourites for those lucky enough to get their names on the list. Most of their January 2013 hometown shows at Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen in Düsseldorf sold out within 10 minutes although amusingly, the ‘Tour De France Soundtracks’ presentation appeared to be the last to reach its full capacity!

The Electricity Club wishes everyone good luck on their journey and TEC hopes to get to the ‘Radio-Activity’ show. That particular album’s title track still evolves with a stark resonance today, as this performance from the Tokyo ‘No Nukes’ concert earlier in the summer shows…
