A very special concert celebrating 35 years of legendary Manchester label Factory Records has been announced to take place on Saturday 31st August 2013 at Heaton Park. Titled FAC535, the concert will be headlined by Factory’s most commercially successful act NEW ORDER headlining with PETER HOOK & THE LIGHT also on the bill.
All has not been well of late in this most joyless of divisions. In 2012, NEW ORDER controversially toured the world without Hook with while Hook himself has been playing shows based around JOY DIVISION’s two albums ‘Unknown Pleasures’ and ‘Closer’ with performances also recently of the first two NEW ORDER albums ‘Movement’ and ‘Power, Corruption & Lies’. However, the two factions will put aside their differences in order to air the supreme JOY DIVISION and NEW ORDER back catalogue in their hometown for one glorious evening only.
Also playing will be PET SHOP BOYS who played The Hacienda back in 1991 and collaborated with ELECTRONIC, Bernard Sumner’s side project with THE SMITHS’ guitarist Johnny Marr on their debut album ‘Electronic’. Incidentally, Marr will be NEW ORDER’s special guest on two US dates in Las Vegas and Santa Barbara on 11th and 18th April respectively plus a special UK gig at Jodrell Bank on 7th July. ELECTRONIC themselves will also be reuniting for FAC535 plus there will be the live debut of THE OTHER TWO who will have the honour of opening the show.
Other guests rumoured to be joining in for the day long occasion are HAPPY MONDAYS’ Shaun Ryder, ex-KRAFTWERK member and ELECTRONIC collaborator KARL BARTOS, and A CERTAIN RATIO’s Martin Moscrop who worked with ELECTRONIC on the excellent ACR re-recording of ‘Shack Up’ back in 1994 for MCA Records.
Whether Hooky will actually rejoin his old band mates during the NEW ORDER set will be a hotly discussed topic…
Tickets go on sale at 9am on Friday 5th April 2013 via the usual agents
Thanks to everyone who was entertained by our story today regarding the Fac535 concert. As the date of the news item testifies, The Electricity Club was just playing an April Fool’s prank… how does it feel? 🙂
