Paul Humphreys is one half of the legendary synthesizer duo ORCHESTRAL MANOEUVRES IN THE DARK whose 1979 debut single Electricity has inspired the name of this website.

'Electro Weimar Cabaret' is the easiest way to describe the music of KATJA VON KASSEL. She sings in both German and English, often within the same song in a sultry Marlene Dietrich tone.

After working within the UK music scene for several years including a stint as a guitarist on "X-Factor", she was going to head back to Germany but luckily met producer and LADYHAWKE collaborator Alex Gray who co-wrote "My Delirium" and "Dusk 'Til Dawn". He introduced her to the joys of electronic instrumentation and now with her synthetic torch songs, she appears to be in the right place, at the right time with the right music. More inside »

Introducing VILLA NAH

VILLA NAH are a brilliant new duo hailing from Finland. Juho Paalosmaa (vocals) and Tomi Hyyppä (instruments) took their name from the East Helsinki suburbs where they lived and deliver a form of dreamy synthesizer pop that conjures up aural paintings of snow, fjords and glaciers.

Like their Nordic neighbours KLEERUP and A-HA, the soundtrack they construct has a melancholic edge with uplifting pop melodies. The sadness of John's vocals is often offset by Tomi's gorgeous vintage sound textures and crisp electronic experimentation. More inside »

ULTRAVOX - RTE2 Live

Following their triumphant reunion in 2009 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their 'classic' incarnation with the "Return To Eden" tour, ULTRAVOX came back to the Hammersmith Apollo for the second leg of shows which this time takes in European territories such as Germany and Scandinavia.

The line-up of Warren Cann, Chris Cross, Billy Currie and Midge Ure which first came together in 1979 became one of the most successful of the 'new wave' of synthesizer based bands, fusing the classical overtones of Bela Bartok with dynamic Teutonic influences such as KRAFTWERK, MICHAEL ROTHER, LA DÜSSELDORF and of course NEU! Originally a duo consisting of David Woods and Russell Harris, THE VANITY CLAUSE were in various rock bands until the chance acquisition of various vintage synths, courtesy of an emigrating pal. One of these included the Moog Liberation, a beast so huge that David admitted it was probably heavier than him!

Having gigged to anyone who would listen, the Essex duo soon developed a synth sound that was heavily influenced by early ULTRAVOX, LADYTRON, Some Bizarre and Mute Records. Their material, which included futuristic titles such as "Fluotexine" and a cover of FAD GADGET's "Back To Nature", was promising with the emphasis on big 'played' synths sitting on top of sequences and urgent rhythm construction. THE GOLDEN FILTER Voluspa

"Voluspa" is the impressive new album by THE GOLDEN FILTER. Based in New York, they consist of Aussie vocalist Penelope Trappes and synth programmer Stephen Hindman from Ohio.

While they may reside in the spiritual home of electro-disco, THE GOLDEN FILTER are melodically more rooted in Northern Europe. Indeed the album title comes from the ancient Nordic poem "Voluspa" which relates the story of the creation of the world and its coming end. While often compared to THE KNIFE, while almost as enigmatic, THE GOLDEN FILTER are far more accessible. More inside »
